Premium Nokia CARK-91 car phone kit installed in a 1998 Ford Mondeo

This is a “Premium” installation of a Nokia CARK-91 handsfree car phone kit into the older style Ford Mondeo hatchback (1993 to 2001) with the standard Ford 5000 radio fitted. To avoid screw holes the handset cradle was mounted using a Dashmount console mounting bracket.

You do not need an Autolead to mute any Ford stereo if the head unit is above a 3000 RDS model, although an Autoleads Cellular Telemute Interface lead was used on this occasion part number 06-061B. This mutes the stereo and redirects the audio through the cars front two speakers and the radio displays “PHONE” when a call is made or received. However, the amplified 7000 head unit fitted to some Ghia models after 1998 cannot be used in conjunction with an Autolead as with most amplified head units!

A Panorama glassmount antenna was mounted on the rear screen and the kits microphone sits neatly next to the interior light and the cable tucks neatly away behind the head lining. It is also possible to use a tax disc type antenna as well, even on vehicles with heated front windscreens as the elements do not go near the tax disc holder area.
